[Abk. EP, dt. »elektronisches Publizieren«], ursprünglich ein Synonym für DTP, heute der Oberbegriff für jede Art der Verbreitung von Informationen auf elektronischem Weg, z. B. in Form von CD-ROMs oder im Internet. Im letzteren Fall spricht man auch von Web-Publishing (Online-Publishing).
 
Elektronisch veröffentlichte Texte bieten gegenüber herkömmlichen Büchern zwei wesentliche Vorteile. Zum einen lassen sich in ihnen gezielt Informationen suchen und mittels interner Verknüpfungen (sog. Hyperlinks) ansteuern. Dadurch genügt ein Mausklick, um weitere Informationen zu einem Thema zu erhalten. Diese Verknüpfungen müssen allerdings vom Autor bzw. Herausgeber vorgesehen und in den elektronischen Text eingebaut werden. Sucht man Zusatzinformationen außerhalb dieser Verknüpfungen, so kann man Suchfunktionen einsetzen, die in den meisten Leseprogrammen (Reader) enthalten sind. Überdies lassen sich in elektronisch publizierten Texten nicht nur Bilder einfügen, sondern auch Animationen oder Filmsequenzen.
 
Häufig benutzte Programme für elektronische Publikationen sind beispielsweise Adobe Acrobat und Folio Views. Die Reader für diese Produkte sind meist gratis oder für ein geringes Entgelt im Internet erhältlich.
